Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission guided by veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky their (George Clooney) - after this operation he wants to end his active duty. But during a seemingly normal spacewalk a catastrophe occurs: The shuttle gets destroyed - completely baseless until the bond between them coast to Stone and Kowalsky completely alone in the darkness. Due to the deafening silence they know that they have lost contact with the earth ... and thus any chance of rescue. Their fear turns into panic, while every breath reduced their small supply of oxygen. However, the only way to return first requires a further foray into the gruesome boundlessness of space ...
