Curriculum Vitae

Guelsel Oezkan was born in 1966 in Malatya, Turkey. In 1980 she entered the BRD. In 1987 she began a film study at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg and graduated with distinction.

Guelsel works as a director and scriptwriter for documentaries as well as feature films. Since 1989 she is an independent filmmaker and producer and she realized documentaries and features for ARD, arte, NDR, WDR, BR, DW Phönix, H3, MDR and SFB as well as international channels such as Spain TVE, 3sat and Planet-France. Her films were internationally televised and nominated numerous times.

She was a member of the jury for the 17th edition of "ÖKOMEDIA", an international environment film festival. Since 2011 she works in various universities, among them the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe, as a lecturer for storytelling in S3D documentaries and feature films. Gülsel Özkan is also the director of Planet Film GmbH. She is married and has two children.
